A Greeting Across Years and Yards

Exhibition Design – A Handshake Across Time and Gardens

The exhibition A Handshake Across Time and Gardens has opened.

The exhibition design, including the poster and the visual concept of the exhibition space, was created by me—my first exhibition design project after many years.

As always, it felt as though the gloves displayed in the bushes could have been arranged endlessly. The concept, however, was inspired by a personal memory from the years I lived in the Nõmme district of Tallinn. Every spring, while walking my dog through the forest between Nõmme and Mustamäe, I enjoyed what felt like a spontaneous open-air exhibition of lost gloves. As the snow melted, new gloves would appear on branches almost every day, carefully placed there by passers-by in the hope that their owners might find them. There were many fascinating discoveries, and I even photographed some of them, although I can no longer find those images.

That passing of time—and the moment when an everyday object is preserved in a particular state—is the same idea reflected in this exhibition.

My sincere thanks to the curators for their trust and for encouraging me to bring this project to life.
